Christmas with the Hawks

Dear teams,

The Christmas with the Hawks tournament went through a transition in 2004. A new format was introduced into fourteen out of the nineteen divisions. The comments were favorable and all divisions wiil play under this format in 2005. Other changes will included better communication and extra time added to games, which will hopefully compensate for the delays we experienced this year.

The second phase of our new format will also be introduced in 2005. This will mean more games, with the elimination of a teams on their third loss. Teams with two losses will still have the opportunity to win their Division. A new storm policy will also be introduced in 2005. Storms are a risk inherent with a winter sport. Our Christmas tournament never experienced, nor can it plan for a storm of the magnitude we experienced this Christmas. It would not be logistically or economically feasible to set 40 - 60 hours of ice for a one day storm

We hope you will consider entering the Christmas with the Hawks 2005 tournament and pray we do not have a repeat of last years storm.

All teams who did not play their 3 games that were guaranteed have received a refund of $220 per game not played.

Yours in Hockey,

John R Carson

Atlantic Challenge Cup

The Halifax Hawks were represented at this year’s Atlantic Challenge Cup, held in Bathurst, New Brunswick during the Thanksgiving Weekend, by Cynthia Lohnes (Bantam A) and Jillian Saulnier (Peewee AA).

In the Final Under 15 Female game between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, the end of regulation time saw the teams tied at 1-1, then a 10 Min overtime period decided nothing. In a shoot-out, N.B took the game with a final score of 3-2.

The Atlantic Challenge Cup regroups the best players from the Atlantic Hockey provinces in an annual best on best competition. The Atlantic Program of Excellence Hockey Championship serves to prepare players, coaches and teams staff members for competition in International play, including the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge and the Canadian National Teams. www.atlanticchallengecup.com
