2007-2008 SEASON REQUIRES A VOLUNTEER TO JOIN THE EXECUTIVE AS
SAFETY/RISK MANAGEMENT FACILITATOR.  PLEASE CONTACT GARY PAUL , PRESIDENT 

* If you haven't taken HC's Speak Out course yet, you can also go to Hockey Nova Scotia's website to view a detailed list of sessions being hosted by HNS.  Every volunteer working with a minor hockey team must take this course before they are able to work with a team.

REMINDER TO ALL COACHES / MANAGERS

WHEN YOU RECEIVE YOUR CRIMINAL RECORDS CHECK CLEARANCE IN THE MAIL, PLEASE DELIVER TO THE HAWKS OFFICE AT CENTENNIAL ARENA - TO THE ATTENTION OF TOM SAUNDERS

DO NOT KEEP THIS DOCUMENT - THE ORIGINAL MUST BE RETURNED TO THE HALIFAX HAWKS MINOR HOCKEY ASSN.

All volunteers in minor hockey require the following:  1) Speak Out, 2) Child Abuse Registry clearance, 3) Criminal Records Check clearance.  

Hockey NS : “No person will be allowed on any team staff  after December 31st 2007 with out proper  HNS certification.   

Have your team representative contact Tom Saunders arrange registration for required courses and certification. All volunteers must have the Child Abuse Registry and Police Background checks as well as the speak out sessions.  At least one coach must have the NCCP level 1 and one coach on the bench must have the trainers (safety) course.

 


Also, there are still several coaches who have not completed the criminal records (CR) and child abuse registry clearance (CAR) forms for the 2007/8 season.  It is your responsibility to confirm with the Assn's Risk Mgmt coordinator that you have these clearances.  Please be in touch with the office to confirm your status in this regard, on your team.   December 31, 2007 Hockey NS will be provided the forms for HHMHA.  If yours is not in there, they will be advising you to step down.   Let that not be you.  Thank you for your cooperation - it is appreciated.

 It is the responsibility of the individual to ensure they are properly certified.

FIRST AID KITS  : please note that First Aid Kits can be purchased out of team funds

All teams are required to have First Aid Kits. A standardized list of suggested contents appears below. You can purchase all the contents in your local drug store. First aid kits, medical forms and accident report forms are all mandatory as part of your safety plan in accordance with Hockey Canada.

Over the counter medications

1.        Anti-bacterial wash/soap

2.        Polysporin ointment

3.        Q-tips

4.        Acetaminophen

5.        “Tylenol” junior strength  (ages 6-11), (adult regular strength).

6.        Ibuprofen regular strength (200mg per tab).

 

 Assorted Bandages

1.        Variety pack Elastoplast Band-Aids.

2.        Sterile 3 x 3 / 4 x 4 gauze bandages.

3.        Small pack 2 x 2 gauze bandages.

4.        1” kling x 1.

5.        2” kling x 1.

6.        2 large gauze bandages.

7.        1 2” ace bandage.

8.        1 3” ace bandage.

 

Misc.

1.        Clear tape (preference 1”).

2.        Gauze tape (preference 1”).

3.        Sterile scissors.

4.        Corrugated cardboard cut in varying sizes for splints.

-          12” x 1.

-          8” x 1.

5.        2 Ice packs.

6.        Sling x 1.

7.        Safety pins.
